This blog outlines the yearly conference of the Local Human Rights Committees
What is the Local Economic Forum? (***image, text 8 colour areas: scroll to bottom)
The Local Economic Forum is a non-profit organisation established in 2024. It serves as the annual meeting of the Local Human Rights Commission. The annual event takes place in all Dutch communities with more than 20,000 inhabitants. The organisation aims to be a platform for the exchange of ideas between politicians, representatives of business and local organisations, academics, civil society organisations, journalists and local citizens. The Local Economic Forum meets annually in November.

What is discussed?
Participants discuss important and topical issues, such as post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, new technologies and the war in Ukraine. The theme of the inaugural year in 2024 is: ‘Collaboration in local cyber communities’.
The programme centres on five overarching subtopics (courtesy of OUR central government):
- Energy, food and climate;
- Economy, trade and infrastructure;
- Technology and innovation;
- Employment, skills and care;
- Dialogue and collaboration in our communities with different population and governance layers.
These topics are covered in the more than 300 sessions organised during the meeting. Many of these sessions can also be followed online via a livestream of the Local Economic Forum.
